Park Farm >> Cosy Cloche

A CLOCHE is like a very small greenhouse or poly-tunnel that does not have a “floor” and sits directly on the soil. Cloches are perfect for growing from seed, plugs or seedlings from the Garden Centre or your greenhouse and also for starting warm-weather plants early.

The first bell-shaped glass cloches were invented around 1600 in Italy and were generally about 43cm(17ins) in diameter and 38cm(15ins) tall. The original cloche design and function have changed very little over the last 400 years.

Variations that have come into fashion over time include carrying knobs on top, venting holes, and colour shades to reduce heat. Probably the most important change has been the introduction of plastic making lighter, warmer, anti-scorch and most of all safer cloches.

The Cosy Cloche™ is a unique one of these. The Cosy Frame™ is just a big Cosy Cloche™.

Good job we got the cloches on before the snow came!

Warmer and safer than glass - but clear enough to read a newspaper through!

“I have been using CosyCloche™ for over eight years, they are light, store flat, easy to assemble, and very stable when erected: they are, frankly, perfect for the job that
cloches have to do. Compare them with all the bother of old-fashioned cloches (that are probably much less scientifically designed) and there really isn’t much contest.”
